Some verses which caught my attention:
Matthew 24
29 - Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of heavens shall be shaken.
30- And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 - And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Mark 13
24 - But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light.
25 -And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
26 - And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27 - And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
Luke 21
25 - And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26- Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 - And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 - And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
While I have not included the verses prior or after, please remember that CONTEXT is KING. I am selecting these verses as they touched my heart/mind as I read and meditated upon our Father's Word.
There are differing opinions on the discourse on the sign of the times. That the tribulation spoken of occurred when Jerusalem was sacked in A.D. 70 - some that the tribulation spoken of is yet to come. That there is a two fold tribulation spoken of - one which has occurred (Jerusalem destroyed) and one to which history is hurling towards (described in Revelation).
I am choosing NOT to delve into a position for or against a certain position or view of eschatology. :-)
I know that the apostle consoled our brethren with these words:
1 Thessalonians
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
May the comfort and peace of the Holy Spirit infuse us this day Lord, helping us and guiding us to a closer and more intimate fellowship with You. May He bring to our remembrance all that You have said ~ continually bringing to our mind Your Words of love and encouragement, and thus may we comfort one another.
