Ten (law) virgins - five (grace) ready and five not.  As I pondered upon this passage and how the betrothed were to be waiting in anticipation of the bridegrooms return, I remembered hearing how Jewish weddings were similar.

Thank you Lord for technology which gave us Google.  :-) - The passage below is taken from this website:  http://www.muslim-marriage-guide.com/jewish-marriage-customs.html

"She must keep her lamp, her veil and other things she needs beside her bed. Her bridesmaids must also be ready and waiting with oil in their lamps."

I also found this website which gives a comparison between a Jewish betrothal/wedding and  Jesus purchase (betrothal) of HIS people and our need to be in preparation for HIS return.

NOTE:  I do not vet the sites - I am simply browsing for information which will enhance what I am learning.  Be a Berean - Acts 17:11 - study, be wise, discerning. :-)

At midnight - typical to a Jewish wedding the bridegroom would come at night to 'claim' his bride ~ just as Jesus warns us:  Mat 24:44  Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.

Interesting too that the father decided when it was time for the son to go and claim his bride.

Mat 24:36  But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

It saddens me to think how ill prepared the Bride that is living, breathing and walking the face of the earth today is ill prepared to receive her groom.  Especially those in the western world...we are far too consumed with the indulgences of our flesh and the acquisition of toys and trinkets...lacking in the basic ability and understanding of being consumed in anticipation of HIS return.

He has left us, some with 10 (law) talents, some with 5 (grace), some with 1 (unity) talent.  When HE returns what will HE find?  Will we hear those most cherished words?

"Well done thou good and faithful servant: thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the the joy of thy lord."

Where is our desire and our passion?  Focused on the temporal things of this world?  Or focused on pleasing the One who purchased and betrothed us to Himself?  Diligently learning of Him and His nature?

O Father, give Your people a passion to learn and know more about You.  To devour the love letters you have complied together for our growth and edification.  Father just as a lover desires to read and re-read the notes and letters from their beloved, let us too desire to read and re-read Your words of adoration, encouragement and exhortation.
