And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones.  And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of the Lrod, and for the king's house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almug trees, no were seen unto this day.  (1 Kings 10:11-12)

And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir, brought algum trees and precious stones. And the king made of the algum trees terraces to the house of the LORD, and to the king's palace, and harps and psalteries for singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Judah.  (2 Chronicles 9:10-11)

Okay, almug or algum?

almug - H484 - Probably of foreign derivation (used thus only in the plural); almug (that is, probably sandalwood) sticks.

algum - H418 - By transposition for H484; sticks of algum wood.

trees - H6086 - From H6095; a tree (from its firmness); hence wood (plural sticks).
  • H6095 - A primitive root; properly to fasten (or make firm), that is, to close (the eyes).
Gill:

brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees: or algum trees, by transposition of letters, 2Ch_9:10, which some of the Jewish writers (b) take to be coral, which is not likely; others Brasil, rather ebony, which was peculiar to India, as both Solinus (c) and Virgil (d) say; Strabo (e) makes mention of strange trees in India:

I am not much closer to understanding what either of almug or algum trees are...hmmmm. Okay, searching, found this description:

"Algum or Almug Trees,
the former occurring in (2 Chronicles 2:8 ; 2 Chronicles 9:10 2 Chronicles 9:11 ) the latter in ( 1 Kings 10:11 1 Kings 10:12 ) These words are identical. From ( 1 Kings 10:11 1 Kings 10:12 ; 2 Chronicles 9:10 2 Chronicles 9:11 ) we learn that the almug was brought in great plenty from Ophir for Solomons temple and house, and for the construction of musical instruments. It is probable that this tree is the red sandle wood, which is a native of India and Ceylon. The wood is very heavy, hard and fine grained, and of a beautiful garnet color."

From BibleStudyTools.com site. Searching a bit more and found this blog, Bible Buddies, enjoyed the study she shared, especially the last paragraph:

"Sandalwood has the most magnificant fragrance however, the wood must be struck first by an axe before the scent is released and enjoyed. How this reminds me of my life and the trials I have been through and must go through. It has not been until I have been struck with hardship that I reflect the glory of God and continue to be a sweet savor to Him."

Sandalwood Forest

A forest of sandalwood (or algum/almug) trees.  The next picture is of the logs.  I thought those interesting as Solomon used logs to make pillars and terraces.

Beautiful fan...

I still have not figured out how to get rid of all the dead space.  **sigh**

Moving along...

And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.  (1 Kings 4:26)

That was a no-no...not supposed to increase wives or horses.

But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.  (Deuteronomy 17:16)

So I sit here pondering...what has Father explicitly said in the Word of God that I am choosing to ignore and/or be outright disobedient of/to?  We are all in a state of sanctification, all in the dross removal portion of God's plan, not quite seeing in the mirror clearly.  O Lord, help us to see and hear You above all, to seek You and Your word.  To know and worship You in spirit and truth.  Lord help us to lay aside our preconceived ideas and thoughts, any denominational teachings and sit unadorned at the feet of Jesus that we may learn, know and grow in and through Him.
