Day 97
VII - The Reign of Saul 1065-1025 B.C. - events in Saul's reign prior to David's acceptance as king (35 years).
Saul becomes king - chosen, anointed and installed. Confirmed as king - victory over ammonites at Jabesh-Gilead.
Public acceptance at Gilgal - defeats Hagarites.
1Sa 10:9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
God gave Saul another heart...and then later...
1Sa 28:16 Then said Samuel, Wherefore then dost thou ask of me, seeing the LORD is departed from thee, and is become thine enemy?
1Sa 28:19 Moreover the LORD will also deliver Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines: and to morrow shalt thou and thy sons be with me: the LORD also shall deliver the host of Israel into the hand of the Philistines.
I have pondered the statement, 'gave him another heart'...does that mean born again? Did Father remove his heart of flesh?
A few of the commentaries I perused seemed to indicate that it was not a spiritual change, but a desire to defend Israel, to leave off managing the land and seek to destroy the enemies of the Lord.
Saul's actions would seem to indicate no...he lived after the flesh and his own desires. Yet, further along before his death it would appear that Saul will be with Samuel, where he is...
...and having recently researched Samson's inclusion in the Hall of Faith...there is Samuel, yet no mention of Saul. David, yes. That which strikes me the most is though all stumble, fumble, falter and fall...no one fails for whom the Lord is on their side.
Rom 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Stand fast in the faith dearly beloved of the Lord. Cease not to proclaim the truth of Word of the Most High God. Be instant in season and out.
1Pe 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
