Days 123 and 124
As I was pondering the past two days readings it crossed my mind that David is idealized...it is a rare occasion if someone does not know about David and Goliath. Giant vs the little guy...but David was so much more than that...a sinner and a saint, a survivor.
He battled far more giants than physical men, he battled his flesh, his desires, the reigning king, intrigue and deceit among his military leaders, his wife, his son for control of the kingdom.
Yet in and through it all do we truly appreciate how much like David we are? We may have one, if any major glorious battles, and lop off the head of our 'giant,' but for the most part we endure the daily grind of the world slapping at us, trying to tear us down and cause us to doubt the sovereignty of our God to deliver and defend us.
We are priests and kings of the Most High God...called to be set apart and holy, stumbling, fumbling, and falling at times, but NEVER failing...not because of who we are, but because of our Savior Christ Jesus. David could endure hideous afflictions, trials and tribulations because he knew who was really in control and that one day he would be with him for eternity.
Beloved of the Lord, do we keep our eyes on Jesus? The final outcome? Or do we allow the wind and waves of the hardness that life can sometimes be to cause our eyes to lose focus. Look up, for your redemption draweth nigh...be encouraged by your fellow saints and warriors whose lives are detailed in the pages of the Word of God for our example and encouragement.
