But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them. (Numbers 33:55-56)
Besetting sins? That is what the verses above made me think about. How, if we do not aggressively rout out the sins in our lives, they best us, snipping and snapping at our heels. We all have 'stuff' we are working through...either from past choices, situations, circumstances either of our own making, or allowed by Father. Which lead me here:
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
As I was working through looking for the word besetting (not found in Scripture) I came across this article, which I thought interesting, I have not read it all, but was encouraged by the author to give due diligence in what I say and write (and no, I am not a theologian nor a scholar). Also, to encourage those that are placed within my path to be diligent as well.
Those chosen to divide the land:
- Eleazar ~ Levi
- Joshua ~ Ephraim (Joseph) ~ Rachel
- Caleb ~ Judah
- Shemeul ~ Simeon
- Elidad ~ Benjamin
- Bukki ~ Dan
- Hanniel ~ Manasseh
- Kemuel ~ Ephraim
- Elizaphan ~ Zebulun
- Paltiel ~ Issachar
- Ahihud ~ Asher
- Pedahel ~ Naphtali
Reuben ~ Simeon ~ Levi ~ Judah ~ Issachar ~ Zebulun ~ Joseph ~ Benajmin ~ Dan ~ Naphtali ~ Gad ~ Asher
And Gad. Gad and Reuben. :-D And Ephraim is listed twice, or has two representatives. I wonder if I caught this list when I typed out the different times the tribes were listed.
Reuben and Gad. This kept tickling at my mind...and Father finally gave me the answer...Reuben and Gad had no portion in the land on the other side Jordan, thus they would not be needed to be part of the 'dividing crew.' So obvious and I completely missed it. **sigh**
Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death. And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. (Numbers 35:31-33)
This made me think about the abortions that are performed daily. 4,000 innocent lives are snuffed out daily in the USA. I fear for this nation (and those who practice the same). We are in a deeply troubling time. Seemingly oblivious to the sin (blood crying out for vengeance) which builds daily. O Lord, this nation deserves not one single solitary ounce of Your holy mercy. We are a wicked and adulterous generation. Wicked, vile and hating You and Your ways in all areas of our nation. Lord, we can not even repent. We have not a clue to the depth of our depravity, only You Father in Your loving kindness can show us our sin, expose our wickedness, make it an putrid stench in our nostrils of how far we have descended into the pit of dehumanizing ourselves in a vain attempt to please our flesh. Lord, open our blind eyes to see ourselves as You do. O Lord, send a cleansing, healing rain over this nation...cause us to repent and seek You.
