All I could think about as I read the clean and unclean foods, was the story about Peter and the sheet.

Act 10:11  And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

Act 10:12  Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

Act 10:13  And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

Act 10:14  But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

Act 10:15  And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Act 10:16  This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

Father gave the distinction between clean and unclean meats to make a point, that Israel was set apart, different from those nations around her.  She was to be a light to the Gentiles, to set an example of how to follow the Lord.  She became so wrapped up and self-righteous that she did not fulfill her commission.

Mat 23:15  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

They were more concerned about religion versus a relationship.  A religion has a set of rules, do this, don't do this.  Checklist Christianity is what we currently have in a majority of churches.  A relationship is fluid and moving, constantly growing, changing, deepening.  Granted Father does not change, ever.  However, the more time we spend with Him, the more we change.

2Co 3:18  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

We should be growing more and more into HIS likeness with each passing day.  Beloved, have you knelt at the throne of Grace this day, and absorbed the wonder and amazement of listening and learning from the Master?
