If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.  (Deuteronomy 21:18-21)

If I were a betting woman, I would be willing to plunk down a good sum of $$$ on how effective this procedure would be in lessening the rebellious, slovenly attitude of quite a number of folks, children included.  Of note, the parents have done ALL that they could or should and the child continues in his rebellion.  I think we have a generation of parents who are more concerned about being friends with their child, versus the hard work of being a parent.  Not that there is not reward and joyful, playful times, but it is a lot of work.

Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt; How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God. Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.  (Deuteronomy 25:17-19)

I enjoyed the confirmation from Father that Israel was to destroy the 'sin' of Amalek.  I read an article the other day, Killing Sin and thought it worthwhile enough to share.  As I reviewed it again, I was encouraged more by the comments as they echo my sentiments to the Bride.  The more conformed we are to HIM, the less apt we are to sin, or be tempted to give into the flesh.

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.  (Deuteronomy 22:5)

Needless to say, this mitigates all cases for cross-dressing and/or transgenderism.  :-)  I know that that some would hold to a standard that all women are to wear dresses, with sleeves down to the wrists, hems down past the ankles.  If my memory serves correctly, I believe most men wore tunics (past their knees)?

I found Wesley's commentary the most concise:

Namely, ordinarily or unnecessarily, for in some cases this may be lawful, as to make an escape for one's life. Now this is forbidden, both for decency sake, that men might not confound those sexes which God hath distinguished, that all appearance of evil might be avoided, such change of garments carrying a manifest sign of effeminacy in the man, of arrogance in the woman, of lightness and petulancy in both; and also to cut off all suspicions and occasions of evil, which this practice opens a wide door to.

Effeminacy in man and arrogance in women.  Wow!  Our society is rife with both!  A man wearing a 'dress' is anything but manly.  Hmm, but then you've got those 'Scottish' men who like to wear their kilts.

Nor do I think that a woman wearing leggings (pants, trousers, etc) is necessarily arrogant.  I went browsing (less expensive than shopping) and there were several comments which were similar.  If at a distance can someone tell if you are female/male?  Sadly in our society it is difficult to distinguish.  :-(

I thought the verses in Deuteronomy 22:23-24 interesting as the word 'betrothed' and 'wife' are used interchangeably.

Exactly what is betrothed?  H781 - A primitive root; to engage for matrimony.

Which is not necessarily the same as an engagement in our modern world.  A betrothed woman was considered to be the man's wife.  To dis-engage could only be done via a divorce.  Hence, Joseph's reluctance to put Mary away privately.  He did not want a public divorce (drawing attention to her).  As I typed that out, the sacrificial love and kindness Joseph was willing to bestow on Mary overwhelmed me.  For at that juncture he could only conclude that she had been unfaithful.  O for thousands upon thousands of thousands of such men, noble of character, to permeate and guide our nations.
