Day 68 - 2010

Day 68

Sabbatic Year and Annual Feasts - every 7 years there was to be a release of those who were indebted. A reminder to NOT withhold good from the poor in anticipation of the 7th year.

Our pastor/teacher just spoke on servants (Leviticus - the priest and his household eating holy food). Quite a comparison to the system of slavery once perpetuated on our shores. When people were treated as less than human.

The master brought the servant into his household and treated him as a member of the family. Our Master has done the same with us, we who were without hope, destitute in our sins HE has purchased and bade us sit and eat of HIS holy food.

The Hebrew servant was to go out in the 7th year. The master, in remembrance of Father's provision in the release from Egyptian bondage was to bless the servant.

If the servant wanted to stay - he was taken to the door and had his ear thrust through with an aul - pierced. As I re-read this passage I thought of our Lord and Saviour - he was pierced that we might become HIS for eternity.

Joh 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Can we say, as the apostle Peter:
Joh 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

Another reminder to keep the Passover (the month of Abib). The exact phrase 'keep the Passover' is recorded 13x in the OT and once in the NT. Jesus was the perfect fulfillment of the Passover - death passing us over because of the shed blood of the righteous Lamb of God.

TO BE LEAD BY YOUR STAFF AND ROD
AND TO BE CALLED A LAMB OF GOD

I LOVE THE HOLY LAMB OF GOD
O WASH ME IN YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD
TILL I AM JUST A LAMB OF GOD
