My thoughts after reading this passage:
Hos 4:1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Hos 4:2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
Hos 4:3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
America? I realize that this is spoken to Israel, but the application could be made about the USA. If God spared not HIS chosen nation/people, what hope is there for us if we have transgressed in the same manner?
Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
We have long given up any appearance of righteousness in this nation. I fear for us, we kill our children, we allow deviant behavior calling it a 'choice,' we disdain the roles of wives and mothers, 'shelving' our children (and our elderly) into facilities. God forgive us.
Hos 4:16 For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the LORD will feed them as a lamb in a large place.
slideth back or backsliding - H5637 - A primitive root; to turn away, that is, (morally) be refractory.
Used 17x in 16 verses. A sampling:
If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: (Deuteronomy 21:18)
He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah. (Psalm 66:7)
God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land. (Psalm 68:6)

She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: (Proverbs 7:11)

But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious (H4784) heart; they are revolted and gone. (Jeremiah 5:23)
