Day 100
Second war with Philistines - David and Goliath
The first 3 sons of Jesse: Eliab - God of (his) father; Abinadab - father of his generosity; Shammah - from 8047 ruin.
Went to the battle - David brings goods from home checks on the progress of the battle. Hears the taunt of Goliath (40 days - testings, trials and tribulations) - that uncircumcised Philistine defying the armies of the Living God!
How dare he! How oft do I fail to stand up for my God? Someone trash talks Christianity, the Bride of Christ or God and I say nothing. I am not righteously zealous that Father nor HIS word be blasphemed. I realize it is not wise to cast our pearls before swine, but if led by Father (or nudged, pushed, whacked in the head) do I speak forth HIS words of light and life?
Eliab does not like David's message - and so attacks the messenger. This is par for the course - children of Belial attacking the messenger - tearing down and seeking to destroy, undermine or humiliate a mouthpiece of the Lord.
David rehearses his previous victories over a lion and a bear. I have breezed past this passage far too many times. A lion and a bear. Samson killed a lion. Daniel withstands lions in their den (hungry ones too). I do not know many who would willingly tangle with a lion, even if it were attacking. My instinct would be to run away. A bear seems even worse than a lion. Yet, by the power of the Lord, David withstood the physical attacks.
Which makes me think about this verse:
1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
We are under attack as well - how well prepared are we for the enemies attack?
David and Jonathan - a friendship forged by God. I pray all are blessed with at least 1 friend such as these two share. This journey through life to our celestial city is fraught with a multitude of trials, testings and tribulations...which makes me think of this verse:
Ecc 4:9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
Ecc 4:10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
May the Lord bless each with friends who will stand beside you, exhort and encourage you. and not let you whine, moan, groan or complain when Father is purging dross from you.
Additional praise comes to David - the ladies are singing about him...and this annoys Saul. Envy. Sin lieth at the door.
Saul tries to kill David - envy left unchecked, simmers, seethes and brings forth a desire to inflict harm, hurt or death (either physical, mental or emotional) on the object. Saul's actions show the wickedness of his heart.
Wisdom of David - though won by his victory over Goliath, David does not think he is worthy of the prize, Merab (increase) and declines marriage to her. I wonder if she felt rejected...and no time was obviously wasted in finding another suitor (Adriel - flock of God).
